David was more that the kid who killed a giant. He was a real person who endured incredible difficulty and rose beyond impossible odds, raised by God almighty Himself to become king of Israel. David was a man who understood God’s heart.

It was not only David’s reverence for the awesome majesty of the Almighty that produced his understanding of the Lord, but also his insight into God’s desire for...
intimacy. He knew God wanted to dwell with His people—up close, in every heart, with every family, in every home.

Psalm 24:3-4 NKJV

Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.
