A Call to Repentance
12“Now, therefore,” says the Lord,
#
“Turn to Me with all your heart,
(Deut. 4:29); Jer. 4:1; Ezek. 33:11; Hos. 12:6; 14:1
With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”
13So #
rend your heart, and not #
your garments;
(Ps. 34:18; 51:17; Is. 57:15)
Gen. 37:34; 2 Sam. 1:11; Job 1:20; Jer. 41:5
Return to the Lord your God,
For He is#
gracious and merciful,
(Ex. 34:6)
Slow to anger, and of great kindness;
And He relents from doing harm.
14#
Who knows if He will turn and relent,
Josh. 14:12; 2 Sam. 12:22; 2 Kin. 19:4; Jer. 26:3; Jon. 3:9
And leave #
a blessing behind Him—
Hag. 2:19
#
A grain offering and a drink offering
Joel 1:9, 13
For the Lord your God?
15#
Blow the trumpet in Zion,
Num. 10:3; 2 Kin. 10:20
#
Consecrate a fast,
Joel 1:14
Call a sacred assembly;
16Gather the people,
#
Sanctify the congregation,
Ex. 19:10
Assemble the elders,
Gather the children and nursing babes;
#
Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber,
Ps. 19:5
And the bride from her dressing room.
17Let the priests, who minister to the Lord,
Weep #
between the porch and the altar;
Matt. 23:35
Let them say, #
“Spare Your people, O Lord,
Ex. 32:11, 12; (Is. 37:20); Amos 7:2, 5
And do not give Your heritage to reproach,
That the nations should rule over them.
#
Why should they say among the peoples,
Ps. 42:10
‘Where is their God?’ ”
